Electronic Renaissance
Bill Viola
23/03/17 - Some weeks ago I went to Palazzo Strozzi in Florence to see the last Bill Viola’s exhibition. I didn’t know the artist in any way so I was quite surprised to see his artworks for the first time.
It was an awesome journey through video art expressed in an uncommon way; I was so enthralled by the way he used this modern and technological medium to refer the art of the very ancient times of Middle Age ad Renaissance, simply by resuming the classical and biblical iconographies and giving them new life using movement and contextualizing them in new spaces and times. You already seen that figure before, but here it’s a completely different concept, the result of a clever process of resemantization.
If you come to Florence you should absolutely take a look at it, no regrets!
